Franklin University is a private university with its main campus in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1902, the university has a long history and specializes in serving students whose age typically exceeds the traditional student age. As of today, most students study online, although the university offers face-to-face courses on its campus in the Discovery District of Columbus. Franklin University has over 25 learning centers across the Midwestern United States, and the average student age is 34 years.

Franklin University was founded as the YMCA School of Commerce in downtown Columbus, aiming to offer educational services to adult students. In 1933, it changed its name to Franklin University, and in 1964, it ceased its official partnership with YMCA. After that, the university rapidly developed: in 1969, it opened its first building, Frasch Hall, and in 1976, it received regional accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Throughout the 1990s, Franklin University implemented a number of important initiatives, including launching its first MBA program in 1993, and in 1998, establishing the Community College Alliance (CCA) program, which facilitates transfer of students from colleges to the university. The university also formed partnerships with educational institutions in nine countries around the world.
Today, Franklin University offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as doctoral degrees, including in business administration, healthcare, and instructional leadership design. The university's student body includes more than 300 international students from over 72 countries. Franklin has partnerships with over 135 colleges nationwide to ease student transfers.
