While other manufacturers rush to enter the market with electric SUVs or uncertainly step into the hybrid market, Honda continues to dominate the consumer automotive market. This week, we conducted a test drive of the flagship Honda Pilot Elite 2024.
Our tester was the fourth-generation Honda Pilot Elite 2024. The largest SUV to date, the Pilot boasts an 113.8-inch wheelbase and a length of nearly 200 inches. Sturdy and sporty, it has a height of 71 inches and a width of 67.5 inches. The updated exterior design features a large vertical grille, a powerful lower bumper, and LED headlights. Larger tires and an increased cargo volume make the Honda Pilot the king of the fleet.
The seats are more comfortable than in the third-generation Pilot: The eight-passenger cabin is designed for eight occupants, the third row has been increased by half an inch, and the second row reclines an additional 4 degrees, increasing legroom by 2 inches. Changes to the front row include a high and wide central console with ample storage, 14 cupholders, and two mobile phone chargers. Cargo space has increased by 13.2 cubic feet to 196.8 cubic feet.
The 10.2-inch digital driver display is standard for Honda, offering excellent visibility and technological features, while the 9-inch touchscreen is easy to use. The premium Bose sound system has 12 speakers. The Honda Pilot Elite 2024 is equipped with the familiar 3.5-liter DOHC V-6 engine producing 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, it is Honda’s first 10-speed gearbox, providing very smooth operation for the AWD Pilot Elite. Seven driving modes, towing capacity up to 5,000 pounds. Eight color options ensure that consumers have practically everything they need when choosing a family SUV.
Since Honda continues to supply vehicles at accessible prices to consumers across many markets, the Pilot easily leads the market. Durability, affordability, and reliability have made Honda what it is today. Add to this excellent design, practicality, and most importantly for many, safety, and the Pilot is currently the best flagship.
